Windows 7

So after having Windows 7 beta installed for about a month, I took it off and put Vista back on.  Here are my reasons.

1. I don’t like the new Taskbar.  Sure I can set it to behave like Vista’s, but what’s the point?
2. Library feature was neat, but I never used it.
3. My wireless card would not reconnect when coming out of sleep.  Very annoying.
4. The beta display driver didn’t have OpenGL support.  No playing iD engine games.
5. IE8 is very unstable and crashed at least once a day for no apparent reason.
6. I didn’t like how maximized windows’ title bars stay transparent.

Now that I’m back in Vista, I can say that any speed increase I saw with Windows 7 (aside from boot time) was purely due to the fresh install.  Vista is performing just as fast as 7 did.

Microsoft is going to have to work hard to get me to justify spending $100-$150 for an OEM Windows 7.  It really is just Vista with some extra polish, not that that is a bad thing, it’s just not worth the cost of a brand new OS.
